Approval Procedure

In order to apply for the approval of an advanced measurement approach (AMA) to calculate minimum capital requirements for operational risk according to Article 105 of Directive 2006/48/EC (transposed in Article 21d BWG) redit institutions shall submit to the FMA a complete application.A complete application shall contain:

1. Application letter
2. Supporting documentation
3. Disclosure documents

Only after a complete set of documents has been submitted in accordance with the required standards shall the application be deemed complete.

A hardcopy of the signed application letter shall be submitted to the FMA [Otto-Wagner-Platz 5, 1090 Vienna]. Two copies of the supporting documentation and the disclosure documents shall be submitted in electronic format (CD-Rom) using standard software (MS Word documents preferably in PDF-format; MS Excel).

The documentation has to provide a complete and accurate picture of the current situation at the time of application. Measures and processes which will be implemented or run in the future must be provided with a precise and binding date of their effective implementation.

Language of Documents

In general, the application shall be in writing and filed in German.
Credit institutions with subordinated credit institutions in non-German-speaking countries shall enclose an English translation of the application letter. The supporting documentation shall be in English (for further IRB-specific details see "List of documents requested for IRB application").

Descriptions referring to country-specific issues shall be in separate documents. In addition, the credit institution shall provide a list of all country-specific documents broken down by country. In any case, country-specific expressions (e.g. from national legal texts or accounting rules) shall also be named in the national language.

The name of all documents shall be meaningful and shall contain the numbering as specified in the respective "List of documents" (see Downloads).
