{"id":6930,"date":"2016-05-25T16:52:22","date_gmt":"2016-05-25T14:52:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fma.gv.at\/en\/?page_id=6930"},"modified":"2026-01-23T09:07:46","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T08:07:46","slug":"international-cooperation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.fma.gv.at\/en\/international-affairs\/international-cooperation\/","title":{"rendered":"International Cooperation"},"content":{"rendered":"<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><p>In addition to active cooperation with international organisations, the fostering of bilateral relations with other supervisory authorities is particularly important for the <abbr title=\"Austrian Financial Market Authority\">FMA<\/abbr> .<\/p><p>As a result of the activities of Austrian credit institutions and insurance undertakings in Central and Eastern Europe, there is a particular focus on bilateral contacts to sister supervisory authorities in this region.<\/p><p>The negotiation and conclusion of <strong>memoranda of understanding (<abbr title=\"memoranda of understanding\">MoUs<\/abbr> )<\/strong> and <strong>supervisory colleges<\/strong>, in which all relevant supervisory authorities relevant for the supervision of cross-border groups cooperate, are both important elements of supervisory authority cooperation.<\/p><h2>Memoranda of Understanding<\/h2><p>Bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements (&ldquo;Memoranda of Understanding &ndash; <abbr title=\"memoranda of understanding\">MoUs<\/abbr> &ldquo;) may be concluded with foreign supervisory authorities in the areas of banking supervision, insurance supervision and securities supervision for improving the coordination of supervisory tasks. These agreements simplify and speed up the Financial Market Authority&rsquo;s practical supervisory activities for cross-border issues. They also act as a confidence-building measure, particularly towards non-<abbr title=\"European Economic Area\">EEA<\/abbr>  Member States, and are an important instrument in the <abbr title=\"Austrian Financial Market Authority\">FMA<\/abbr> &rsquo;s efforts to constantly strengthen their operative cooperation with its sister authorities, in particular in Central and Eastern Europe (<abbr title=\"Central and Eastern Europe\">CEE<\/abbr> ). These agreements address the respective tasks, obligations regarding making contact with, as well as information about, the respective other supervisory authority in a practically-oriented way, and form the basis for regular meetings between the respective authorities.<\/p><p>Multilateral Memoranda of Understanding &ndash; <abbr title=\"multilateral memoranda of understanding\">MMoUs<\/abbr> ) are also concluded with multilateral institutions, which are intended to establish international cooperation in supervisory issues. <abbr title=\"multilateral memoranda of understanding\">MMoUs<\/abbr>  that permit the exchange of information of supervisory relevance on a multilaterally agreed basis are particularly significant and contribute to the standardisation and
