{"id":23516954,"date":"2025-12-16T09:27:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T08:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fma.gv.at\/?p=23516954"},"modified":"2025-12-16T13:28:36","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T12:28:36","slug":"fma-executive-director-helmut-ettl-re-elected-as-vice-chairperson-of-the-european-banking-authority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fma.gv.at\/en\/fma-executive-director-helmut-ettl-re-elected-as-vice-chairperson-of-the-european-banking-authority\/","title":{"rendered":"FMA Executive Director Helmut Ettl re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of the European Banking Authority"},"content":{"rendered":"<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helmut Ettl, Executive Director of the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), has been re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of the European Banking Authority (EBA) for a further two-and-a-half year term. Ettl therefore continues to act as the alternate to the EBA Chairperson, Jos&eacute; Manuel Campa. The EBA Chairperson represents EBA externally and chairs the meetings of the Board of Supervisors, the authority&rsquo;s most important decision-making body. The Board of Supervisors takes all of EBA&rsquo;s political decisions, e.g. on the adoption of draft Technical Standards, Guidelines, Opinions and Reports. Ettl has represented Austria as a voting member in this committee in his function as FMA Executive Director since EBA was founded in 2011.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ettl has been the EBA&rsquo;s Vice-Chairperson since July 2023. During this time, he most recently chaired a Task Force for increasing efficiency in banking supervision, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fma.gv.at\/en\/fma-welcomes-european-banking-authority-eba-recommendations-for-increasing-efficiency-in-financial-regulation\/\">published 21 recommendations<\/a>. In his function as Vice-Chairperson, in the coming weeks and months he will have to ensure the seamless changeover of Chairperson, as Campa stands down from his position at the end of January 2026.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The European Supervisory System<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EBA is an independent EU authority, tasked with ensuring an effective and consistent level of regulation and supervision within the European banking sector. Its primary aims exist in maintaining financial stability in the EU as well as safeguarding the integrity, efficiency and the orderly functioning of the banking sector. EBA is independent, but remains accountable towards the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission. It is a component of the European System of Financial Supervision (ESFS), made up of the three supervisory authorities: the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the European Banking Authority (EBA) and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA).
