The Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) will be holding its 9th Supervisory Conference tomorrow, 4 October 2018, at the Messe Wien on the general theme of “The Financial Market as a Global Village: integrated, innovative and international” and will in particular be discussing with around 800 participants about the effects of technological change and globalisation upon the financial services industry, as well as regulation and supervision. Following an opening statement by FMA Executive Director Klaus Kumpfmüller, keynote speeches will be given by Hans Wimmer (ABB-Group) on the topic of “digital transformation” and by Danièle Nouy, Chair of the SSM Supervisory Board on “European Supervision in the Global Village”. These impulses will then be discussed intensely in high level panels featuring representatives from the financial industry, academia and supervision. In the afternoon, three parallel workshops will be held on: “MREL as a flashpoint between ambition and reality”, “Market monitoring – investor protection and innovation in conflict?” and “Prevention of money laundering in the digital and global age”. The finale of the conference will feature a presentation about the “Economic Development of the Financial Market” by the Governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, Ewald Nowotny, as well as a keynote address by Austria’s Minister of Finance, Hartwig Löger.
