Legal Sources – Sustainability in Banking Supervision
The number of regulatory initiatives and other packages of measures at European level in the area of sustainability in the financial market have increased significantly in recent years. The Banking Package 2021 was passed at European level in December 2023 to adequately address challenges relating to the pandemic, and geopolitical and climate-related challenges and their effects on financial market stability. In addition, ESG risk management was reflected in the respective work programmes of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Banking Authority (EBA), as well as in the ECB’s corresponding priorities for supervision. The list below provides an overview of the most important regulatory products as well as the planned activities at European level.
