Changes to the FMA’s Organisation Chart

On 1 January, 2025 organisational changes came into effect at the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) intended to increase the efficiency of supervisory work and also taking advantage of synergies. The supervisory entities affected by the changes in competences have already been informed. The individual changes are as follows:

  • Department I – Banking Supervision:
    • Division I/3 (I/3) is now called “Supervision of Focus Banks” and Division I/5 (I/5) “Supervision of Joint Stock and Mortgage Banks”. As a result there has also be a realignment of their responsibilities.
    • Conduct Supervision has also moved from Department IV to Department I, where it is division I/6 (I/6) “Conduct and IT-Risk Supervision of Banks”.
  • Department II Insurance and Pension Supervision:
    • The department is now called “Insurance, Pension and Corporate Provision Companies Supervision“, as competence for Corporate Provisions Companies has moved from Department III (Securities Supervision) to Department II. As a result the names of all divisions within the department have also changed accordingly.
  • Department III Securities Supervision:
    • Division III/2 is now called “Investment Firms and Financial Innovations” and has taken over the team for “Financial Innovations” which is responsible for crypto-asset service providers, as well as the respective agendas regarding FinTech and the Regulatory Sandbox, which were previously housed in Department IV.
    • Division III/4 is now called “Issuer Supervision” and has taken over the “Accounting” and “Market Transparency” teams.
  • Department IV Integrated Supervision:
    • The department is now called “Integrated Supervision and Innovation”
    • Division IV/1 is now called “Innovation and Data Management, Financial Stability”
    • Division IV/4 becomes IV/3 and is combined with the team for “Consumer Information and Market Monitoring”, that was previously in Department III. It is now called “Combating Unauthorised Business, Market Monitoring and Consumer Information”.
  • Department VI Resolution
    • The department is now called “Resolution & Enforcement and Law” and incorporates the previous staff department “Enforcement and Law”.
