At the end of the 2nd Quarter of 2024 the assets managed by Austrian Pensionskassen (pension companies) stood at € 27.60 billion, an increase of +1.55% or € 421.68 million compared to the 1st Quarter. 8.49% or € 2.34 billion of the total assets under management were held by single-employer Pensionskassen. The number of beneficiaries (entitled and recipients) increased by 0.21% during the 2nd Quarter to just over 1,081,000, of which 13.68% (approx. 148,000 persons) were already receiving a pension benefit from this form of occupational retirement provision. As a result, around one quarter of all non-self-employed in Austria (23.39%) have an entitlement to such a pension benefit, with the assets managed corresponding to around 5.5% of Austrian gross domestic product. The investment performance calculated by the Oesterreichische Kontrollbank (OeKB) for Q2 2024 stood at +1.25%, or +3.98% for H1 2024. On average for the last three, five and ten years the performance stands respectively at +0.87%, +2.85% and +3.11%. Assets are managed by a total of eight Pensionskassen, of which five are multi-employer Pensionskassen and the other three single-employer Pensionskassen. These findings have emerged from the Report on the Austrian Pensionskassen for the 2nd Quarter of 2024, which was published today by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA).

95.50% of the assets of the Pensionskassen are held indirectly via investment funds. Broken down into investment classes, equities have the largest share of 39.94% of assets, followed by debt securities at 33.28%, while balances held at credit institutions at 6.11%, real estate at 5.92%, loans and credits at 3.14% and other assets at 11.61%. After having taken currency hedge transactions into account, around 34.87 % of the assets were invested in foreign currencies.
