FMA Executive Director Eduard Müller elected to the Management Board of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA)

Eduard Müller, Executive Director of the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), was elected to the Management Board of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) located in Paris at the most recent meeting of the Authority’s Board of Supervisors until 30 September 2024. This control instance is composed of the ESMA Chairperson as well as six further representatives with voting rights from the 27 national supervisory authorities; in addition the ESMA Executive Director as well as a Representative of the European Commission also participate at its meetings. The Management Board’s duty is to ensure that the authority fulfils its legal mandate in an orderly manner, and performed the duties that are conferred upon it in an appropriate manner. Its tasks include proposing the annual working plan, the annual budget plan, the Authority’s staffing plan and annual report.

Consequently, FMA managerial staff currently hold managerial positions in all three European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs): FMA Executive Director Helmut Ettl is a Member of the Management Board of the European Banking Authority (EBA), while the FMA’s Managing Director for Insurance and Pension Supervision, Peter Braumüller, is also simultaneously the Vice-Chairperson of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA).
