FMA Managing Director Birgit Puck elected Chair of ESMA’s Markets Standing Committee

Birgit Puck, Managing Director of the Austrian Financial Market Authority’s Securities Supervision Department has been appointed as the Chair of the Markets Standing Committee (MSC) of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) with immediate effect. ESMA’s Board of Supervisors (BoS) elected Puck for this role yesterday. The term of the appointment is until 31 December 2026. Puck succeeds Rodrigo Buenaventura, former Chair of the Spanish Securities Supervision Authority, the CNMV.

The Markets Standing Committee is responsible for regulatory aspects of securities markets and market infrastructures. These include the structure, transparency and efficiency of secondary markets for financial instruments such as stock exchanges, trading platforms and OTC markets; issues relating to market integrity and surveillance, the enforcement of securities laws, co-operation with national authorities in market abuse investigations; post-trading market infrastructures or processes such as the clearing and settlement of transactions in financial instruments; markets for commodities derivatives as well as co-operation with regulatory and supervisory authorities for energy regulation and wholesale energy markets.
