The General Board of the European authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (Anti-Money Laundering Authority, AMLA) has unanimously elected Andreas Schirk, Head of Division at the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) for Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing and Financial Sanctions Supervision, as the co-chair of the newly established Internal Committee on Private Sector Standards. The Committee – one of two newly created AMLA Committees – will be co-chaired by Schirk and Rikke Louise Ørum Petersen (AMLA Executive Board Member). The appointment is for a two-year team.

The Committee will develop harmonised requirements and risk indicators for financial institutions and non-financial sector obliged entities. It plays a role in designing the future supervisory architecture and will ensure national expertise flows into the development of standards from an early stage.

Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing and Financial Sanctions Supervision are key components for the FMA’s strategy for a clean financial centre in Austria.

The Managing Director of the FMA’s Integrated Supervision and Innovation Department, Katharina Muther-Pradler represents the FMA as a member of the AMLA General Board. FMA Expert Elfriede Taurua has already been working as an AMLA pioneer in building-up the new EU Authority for the last year.
