Have you opened a securities account and want to buy shares for the first time? It seems straightforward – but there are lot of details in placing a securities order to consider that can make a real difference. The choice of trading venue or the decision about placing a market order or a limit order can influence the result. Fees or the validity period of the order are factors that first-time trades should not underestimate.
A current analysis by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) about various age groups’ investment behaviour shows that younger investors predominantly invest online and without investment advice (known as “execution only”). The new edition of “Let’s talk about money” focuses on this target group. It contains seven steps for guiding through the entire process: from selecting the right securities, choosing a trading venue, the issue of whether to place a market order or a limit order, through to determining a validity period for the order. Following this approach with help you to avoid stumbling when buying shares for the first time.
