FMA lowers maximum guaranteed rate permitted for life assurance

Release Date: |
Categories:

The maximum interest rate used in calculating the technical provisions in life assurance has been lowered from the previous 2% to 1.75% as a result of an amendment to the FMA Höchstzinssatzverordnung (Maximum Interest Rate Regulation), published in Federal Law Gazette II no. 354/2012. The step was taken in response to the consistent trend of falling capital market interest rates seen in past years. The new maximum interest rate will apply to insurance contracts that are concluded after 20 December 2012 or that stipulate a commencement of insurance coverage after 31 March 2013.
