At the end of the 3rd Quarter of 2021, assets under management by Austrian Pensionskassen (pension companies) stood at € 26.4 billion. This corresponds to an increase of € 211 million or 0.8% compared with the previous quarter, with an all-time high again being achieved. The total number of beneficiaries rose by 0.3% in comparison with the previous quarter to 1.01 million individuals. 12.5% (approx. 125,000) are already receiving a pension benefit. The investment performance calculated by the Oesterreichische Kontrollbank (OeKB) for the 3rd quarter was + 0.7%; the investment performance for the first nine months of 2021 was + 5.5%. On average for the last three, five and ten years the performance stands at +5.0%, +4.2% and +4.9% respectively. These findings have emerged from the Report on the Austrian Pensionskassen for the 3rd Quarter of 2021, which was published today by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA).
97.4% of the assets of the Pensionskassen are held indirectly via investment funds. Broken down into investment classes, equities have the largest share of the portfolio, amount to 39.3% of assets, followed by debt securities at 34.1%, while balances held at credit institutions stand at 6.6%. The remainder is in the form of real estate, loans and credits as well as other assets. After having taken currency hedge transactions into account, around 32.2% of the assets were invested in foreign currencies.
