The Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) recently launched its own communication channel on Twitter. Through its account @FMA_AT or through the web address https://twitter.com/FMA_AT it informs you about trends in the Austrian financial market, developments in international and Austrian legislation as well as outcomes arising from its supervisory activities. These topics are complemented by current warnings about dubious providers (using the #Investorenwarnung hashtag), conducting unauthorised financial services requiring a licence.

While Twitter is less widely adopted in Austria than other social media platforms, with approximately 148,000 accounts, the microblogging service nevertheless serves as the “fastest press agency in the world” and is frequently used by media representatives in Austria. The FMA, which hitherto only had a presence on Xing and kununu, as well as image campaigns on Facebook, has therefore expanded its online presence with its own Twitter channel. The topics covered on it are addressed to journalists, market participants as well as private individuals.
