Warnings published by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) are an important source of information for investors. When considering investing money with financial providers you are unfamiliar with, you should always err on the side of caution and check the provider’s details. One such source to always check are the FMA’s warnings for unauthorised offerings for financial services. 35 such warnings have already been published in the calendar year to date.
In addition to being published on the FMA website, FMA warnings are now also published in German on Watchlist Internet. Watchlist Internet is the leading platform in the DACH region regarding up-to-date information about the various forms of Internet fraud, and therefore is a natural cooperation partner for the FMA. Watchlist Internet’s team of editors handle thousands of tip-offs, analyse cases, and publish accompanying warning notifications. One of its central categories is for dubious or fraudulent financial offerings, in which the FMA’s warnings now also appear.
Watchlist Internet already cooperates with the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection, Criminal Intelligence Service Austria, the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, the Chamber of Labour and the Austrian Economic Chamber. It is part of the Austrian Institute for Applied Telecommunications (ÖIAT; Österreichisches Institut für angewandte Telekommunikation). In 2025, Watchlist Internet had 5.6 million website visits, 31 million page impressions and 2 million accesses via apps.
The FMA also provides information about investment fraud through the A-Z of Finance section on its website, in its monthly consumer information series “Let’s talk about money”, which can also be found on Instagram as @redenwiruebergeld, as well as through its video clip series “1 Minute – 1 Begriff” (“A term explained in a minute”). In addition to Watchlist Internet, the FMA’s warnings can also be accessed in German through the government’s Electronic Announcements and Information Platform (EVI; elektronische Verlautbarungs- und Informationsplattform des Bundes).
