Austria’s Financial Market Authority (FMA) has today, 26 March 2015, submitted all of the files and documents requested by the parliamentary investigative committee convened “to investigate political responsibility for the actions in respect of the Hypo Groupe Alpe Adria” (Hypo Investigation Committee) to the Austrian National Council, within the required deadline. A total of 2,260 files were submitted, almost all of which were in electronic format. The volume of data supplied amounted to in excess of six gigabytes and corresponds to some 125,000 A4 pages.

In the case of the parts of the files that were originated by partner authorities in the EU or EEA, a statutory agreement from the affected authority was required in order to make the submission. Almost all of these authorities complied with the request. Only three partner authorities failed to respond to the FMA’s enquiry, while one denied the request resulting in the three corresponding files not being included in the submission. The submitted documents were supplied in unredacted form, with the exception of records that contained information about other banks that were not concerned by the investigation, which was redacted.
