Details about the Countercyclical Capital Buffer

This page contains an overview of the published information about the countercyclical capital buffer requirement.

Based on Article 23a para. 4 of the Austrian Banking Act (BWG – Bankwesengesetz), the Financial Market Authority hereby publishes the following information about the countercyclical capital buffer requirement:

  • Regarding Article 23a para. 4 no. 5 BWG:

    Countercyclical capital buffer rate for domestically-located relevant credit exposures: 0 %

  • Regarding Article 23a para. 4 no. 2 BWG:

    Ratio between the volume of loans granted in Austria and the Gross Domestic Product (Credit-to-GDP ratio): 163.39 (as of 01.06.2020)
    Credit-to-GDP gap: 3.63 (as of 01.06.2020)

  • Regarding Article 23a para. 4 no. 3 BWG:

    Buffer guide pursuant to Article 136 (2) of Directive 2013/36/EU: 0

  • Regarding Article 23a para. 4 no. 4 BWG:

    Explanation of the countercyclical capital buffer rate set for domestically-located relevant credit exposures: The evaluation of the most recently available data results in a positive Credit-to-GDP gap that is attributable to the extraordinarily strong fall in gross domestic product during the second quarter of 2020. The analyses of additional indicators (in accordance with ESRB Recommendation 2014/1) that are conducted based on the most recent available data currently do not indicate a deviation of the buffer rate from the buffer guide.
